Experiencing first day job nerves is completely normal. Most people get nervous because we tend to worry about the unknown. You have accepted the job offer and you have your first day coming up and you want to be prepared so it relieves some tension and anxiety.
If you have been offered a job through a recruiter you can go to them for advice and ask any questions that you may have about the role/company. The recruiters already have a relationship with the client which means they can easily contact the company and answer any queries you have. If you have been given contact information for your new employer then call them direct.
Preparation
•Organising what you need the night before will make your morning more relaxed.
•There is nothing worse than running late on your first day when you know you need to make a good first impression.
•It is always a good idea to do the commute before your first day so you have a rough idea of how long it will take you to get there but always allow extra time for any traffic.
•You want to make a good first impression so make sure you know what you want to wear. If you are unsure you can always ask what the dress code is if there is no uniform.
It is important that you start building relationships with your peers you can do this by asking them questions and offer to help but be aware that you don’t want to become a distraction.
When you get to work remember to control your expectations which means that you are new to the job and you will not pick up everything straight away especially if this is a completely new role. If you already have transferrable skills then you are more than likely going to be at an advantage.
Your new employer will be more than happy to answer any questions that you have. You should take a notebook so you can write down any notes that will help you to do your job. You can also use this to write down any questions that you can ask at the end of the day.
You were hired for a reason which means you are more than capable of performing your new duties so don’t panic these things take time.
